Children are suffering from stress and anxiety in epic proportions with society's pressure on them to perform and excel in school, sports, and extracurricular activities. I had a conversation with both my children on the same day discussing some of the daily anxiety they were experiencing. Hearing my son say he didn't know how to relax, triggered me to jump into action in researching products out there to assist. Learning to relax takes practice and time to master. Getting outdoors and regular exercise are a great start in assisting but let's take it to the next level. There are some amazing meditation and mindful practice tools out there that children and young adults can use to help create some more zen in their lives.  Meditation is not just a tool to relieve stress and anxiety. It can assist with improvement in other areas as well, such as: creativity and focus skills, compassion for others, pain management, health and overall well-being.
Here are some of the best FREE mobile and iOS apps based on reviews. (They are also good for adults. Go ahead and see for yourself!):
  • Stop, Think and Breathe - The app is the winner of the 2015 Webby People's Choice Award for Health and Fitness. It checks in on your current mood status with a series of questions to customize your meditation session.
  • Insight Timer - With over 1,200,000 users, it is rated as the top free meditation app in the Android and iOS stores. It's packed with so many great features: over 3,000 free guided meditations, 23 meditative play-lists for sleep, relaxation, anxiety and mindfulness, and 3,000 discussion and local meet up groups.
  • Smiling Mind - These modern meditations are designed for young people by psychologists and educators. 600,000 students use this app everyday in the classroom and over 12,000 employees use it to improve their overall well-being and effectiveness at work.
  • Take a Break -This particular app has an option to choose the length of your meditation. It also has a feature for adding relaxing music or sounds of nature during your session. There are many others by this company that cost a nominal fee: Simply Being, iSleep Easy, At Ease, Relax and Rest.
Do you know of any good meditation tools out there? I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to share in the comments section below.
